IN THE EYE OF YAHWEH
HER ITHYPHALLIC REJOINDER
Since forming in 2024, RED RIGHT HAND OF PLAGUE have cast an outsize shadow on the fringes of the extreme metal underground. RED RIGHT HAND OF PLAGUE's catalog is sparse but strong, with only a demo tape, 7" EP, and a split with WARSLAUGHTER. With this debut full-length soon to be released on cassette by Elf Eggs, Transgress.Scar.Numen, RED RIGHT HAND OF PLAGUE display the full lethality of their tactics.
The influence of Conqueror, Revenge, and Proclamation is on full display here, and indeed, RED RIGHT HAND OF PLAGUE are among the few bands truly deserving of such comparisons. But RED RIGHT HAND OF PLAGUE offer more than regurgitated tropes of yesteryear's bestial black/death metal successes.
RED RIGHT HAND OF PLAGUE demonstrate an intense dedication to writing complex, enrapturing pieces. While the bestial aggression on these tracks is undeniably impressive, it is the innovative and unpredictable songwriting that truly sets RED RIGHT HAND OF PLAGUE apart. Each track contains a death march of precisely arranged riffs, as the track sequencing deftly builds and releases tension.
Significantly, the production showcases the instrumentation while maintaining the band's cultivated cacophonous cataclysm. The guitars stand out just enough to articulate the hateful riffing, as the manic and violent drum performance attacks the listener. The reckless punched-in guitar solos and neck-snapping tempo changes add an edge of unpredictability, with the throat-cutting vocals spewing black hatred upon the world. Bookending the album are atmospheres performed by ambient/noise musician MALGEIST, whose evocative works perfectly complement the chaos.
In every way, Transgress.Scar.Numen is the fulfillment of the promise of RED RIGHT HAND OF PLAGUE's earlier work—the flower of the eternal war between Chalice and Blade, drenched with the bodily fluids of the gods. Finally, the cover illustration by the skilled and highly regarded American artist Nightscape Sorcery superbly complements RED RIGHT HAND OF PLAGUE's music and provides a fitting thematic flourish for this debut album.
